PlayStation Portable (PSP)
The PlayStation Portable (often abbreviated "PSP") is Sony Computer Entertainment's first portable video game console, releasing on December 12, 2004 in Japan, March 24, 2005 in North America and September 1, 2005 in most of Europe. Created as a means for Sony to take a chunk of Nintendo's market share in the portable console market, it became the direct competitor of the Nintendo DS. Despite being nowadays generally less looked back upon than its competitor, it sold an impressive 80 million units during its lifetime. It was the only device to have actively used Sony's "UMD" format, a form of mini-DVD that held PSP games and "UMD Video" branded movie releases. Its graphical fidelity was praised on release, often being called a "portable PS2". Among the most notable releases, we can find GTA: Liberty City Stories, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, Crisis Core: FFVII, Monster Hunter Freedom/Unite, Patapon and Locoroco.
