PlayStation (PS1)
The PlayStation (often abbreviated "PSX" or "PS1") is Sony Computer Entertainment's first consumer video game console. Originally an add-on CD-drive accessory for the Super Nintendo, it released as a fully flefged next-generation sytem on December 3, 1994 in Japan and September 9 & 29, 1995 in North America and Europe respectively. The console is often held as one of the major forces behind the push for 3D polygonal graphics in video games. Some notable franchises that started on the PlayStation include Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon and Metal Gear Solid.
