SEGA Saturn was released on November 22, 1994, in Japan, May 11, 1995, in North America, and July 8, 1995, in Europe. It is part of the fifth generation of video game consoles and the successor to the Mega Drive / Genesis. Saturn uses a dual 32-bit CPU architecture and a total of eight processors. While the console has a cartridge port used for additional RAM cartridges or external backup memory, the games were released on CD-ROM exlusively. While it was SEGA's most successful console in Japan, it could not compete against the PlayStation in the West. Notable games include Virtua FighterSega Rally, Clockwork Knight, Nights into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon, Saturn Bomberman and Guardian Heroes. Game series such as Shenmue, Sonic Adventure, Sakura Wars, Grandia, Dead or Alive and Tomb Raider originated on Saturn. More information: Wikipedia
